An established political structure

Ontario's parliamentary structure


Parliament encompasses three functional areas:

Legislative:
  • Enacts, amends and repeals legislation.
  • Authorizes collections and expenditures.
  • Debates the policies put forth by the Government.
Judiciary:
  • Adjudicates civil and criminal disputes through all levels of courts in the province.
Executive:
  • Formulates government policies.
  • Administers government programs.
