Investment in plants and equipment is expected to remain robust in 2006, fuelled by strong intentions in the booming oil and gas sector, and public utilities, according to a sample survey of 29,000 businesses, governments and institutions.

In the 10 year period, 1997 to 2006, foreign direct investment in Canada has risen from C$219.4 billion to C$448.9 billion. Most of this investment (over 64 per cent) has come from the U.S., with European countries (including the U.K.) accounting for almost 29 per cent.
