Ontario is a major trading economy and exports more per capita than Canada and the other G7 countries. In 2006, total Ontario international exports stood at C$198.7 billion, amounting to over 45 per cent of total Canadian exports.

Exports to the United States represent 86.4 per cent of total Ontario exports. Other major export markets are the United Kingdom, China, Norway, Mexico, Japan, Germany and France. More details & data

The creation of NAFTA in 1994 has resulted in a huge increase in trade among the three member countries. Canadian goods, services and capital now have barrier free access to the U.S. and Mexican markets.

Canada is a member of the World Trade Organization which establishes rules of trade between signatories ensuring fair treatment of Canadian goods and services in all of our major export markets. The Uruguay Round Agreement eliminated tariffs in a number of sectors and reduced remaining tariffs by an average of one-third. More details & data

The Export Branch of the Government of Ontario helps small and medium-sized enterprises grow export sales and expand world markets, and assists foreign buyers in finding Ontario suppliers.
